Mythbusters Monday: Getting Started With Video Marketing For Financial Advisors: 2 Easy Steps
Video marketing has become one of the most effective digital marketing strategies. Many financial advisors want to incorporate video marketing, but are unsure of where to start, how to start, and what to do with their videos once they create them. Twenty Over Ten, CMO Samantha Russell shares some insight on how you can easily start your video marketing journey and what you can do with your videos.
Good morning, Samantha Russell here from Twenty Over Ten. Last week, we hosted one of our highest attended webinars ever all about video marketing. There are so many financial advisors out there that want to get started with recording videos and using them to connect with their clients, and more importantly with prospects, but they just don’t know where to get started. So we asked for all of your questions before the event, and we answered as many of them in real time as we could. I just wanted to share a couple of those takeaways that I think would be helpful for all of you to hear as well who weren’t able to attend, and then we’ll link the full replay in the comments below.
Where Do I Start To Engage In Video Marketing?
So one of the most popular questions we had is just how do I get started? What do I do if I want to incorporate video, but I have never used it before? And so where I suggest most people get started is really just by using your smartphone. So that’s actually what I’m recording this video on right now. Most of us today all have a smartphone, and they’ve come a long way in the quality of the video that they can record. So use your smartphone- find a place in your office where you can prop it up, get some good lighting. You want the light to be coming from behind the camera. So right now I’m sitting with the window. I’m facing the window so that the lights coming in nicely to give me some good illumination. I don’t have to deal with the you know, nasty overhead lighting. So find some good lighting and find a quiet space and just record there. I’m recording this video vertically and not horizontally because when we upload it to social media, it’s going to play really nicely in the feed when it’s recorded vertically. So that is also a good tip.
I Created My Video. Now What?
And then once you record it, what do you want to do with it, right? Here at Twenty Over Ten, all of these videos get put a couple different places. So they go in my LinkedIn feed as well as the company LinkedIn feed. We also add them to our YouTube channel so you can subscribe there. So these videos get put there. We also put our webinar replays there and other tutorial style videos on our YouTube channel as well. And we suggest using YouTube over like a Vimeo or a Wistia because of the search engine capability- YouTube is actually the second largest search engine that there is after Google, so you get a lot more bang for your buck if you host videos on YouTube.
Once you get it uploaded to YouTube, you can also then take that link and drop it right into your website. If you’re with Twenty Over Ten using our websites, we make sharing videos in your blogs and your website so easy. So you just copy the URL, go to your website, click the little video upload button and paste that URL in, and it will appropriately size the video exactly where you want it. So if you want it in a column, it’ll be column sized. If you want it full-page hero size above the fold on your homepage, you can have it be there.
I suggest for these videos, you wouldn’t want to put them on your homepage of your website just because they’re not a more professional really really highly produced video. But these would be great to put in your blog posts or the about me or get to know me section or your bio anywhere like that. So again, we also take these videos, and every time we have a blog post that correlates to the topic that I’m discussing, we put that video at the top of the blog post discussion, so you can do that as well.
